The Irish slang term Yo Yos is one you will hear across the country of Ireland, it is safe term and will not cause any offence.
When you think of the word yoyo you probably think of the children’s toy that is a circular disk with a long string in the middle.
Drop the disk from your hand, hold the string and when the disk gets to the bottom of the string it will come back to your hand.
In Ireland they call a yoyo a yoyo, but they also use the slang term yo yos, which is pronounced the same as yoyos, to describe money.
“All I have is ten yo yos”
This is the same as saying
“All I have is €10”
A yo yo is the base currency such as a Euro, Dollar, Pound, Rubble and so on.
As always we recommend you learn the meaning of slang but be careful when using it, as using slang correctly is a language art form!
Now go and practice what you have learnt with native speakers at Smart Language Solutions.
